| Canada is known for its extensive history, picturesque and diverse landscape, a vibrant people and culture. Within the past 10 years Canada has witnessed a quick change and a phenomenal increase in interest both from the tourist sector and property investors, largely as the country became more market-oriented.
Like most countries, Canada offers a great variety of options when it comes to choosing "home". Your choice will depend on several factors, including your budget, how much space you need and what kind of place you would like to.
Here are some of the accommodations you may want to consider:
- A room for rent. Some people who own a house or an apartment may rent out separate rooms in those dwellings. All of the tenants share the bathroom(s) and the kitchen.
- A studio apartment. These apartments are small and were primarily designed for just one person. Most studios consist of a single large-sized room – which includes a kitchen and a bedroom – and a separate bathroom.
- An apartment. Bigger apartments are also available. They range in size from one to three bedrooms. They also have separate kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms.
- A duplex. A duplex is a single house that has been split into two separate living areas, each area being completely separate from the other. Still, the residents may share a yard or a driveway.
- A townhouse. Townhouses are small-sized houses which are built in rows, forming a chain. Usually, they have a similar exterior.
- A house. Homes of all shapes and sizes are available in Canada. You may have a home built specifically to your specifications on an available lot.
- A condominium. Condos are essentially apartments or townhomes that are owned, not rented. Owners are responsible for all of the internal care and maintenance on the property and must pay property taxes. They also pay a condominium association fee which covers the costs of outside upkeep, such as lawn mowing.
Besides these options, there is another important choice for you to make: furnished or unfurnished.
Throughout Canada, you can find furnished accommodations. This means that all of the necessary furnishings - such as beds and chairs - are provided. This option is especially suitable for those who are first moving to Canada, as the cost of transporting your own couches and beds could be rather pricey.
Most people, however, choose to live in an unfurnished "home" to be able to decorate in a manner they see fit. Some unfurnished living accommodations will still have refrigerators and stoves in the kitchen.
Also, keep in mind that housing costs vary considerably, even within the same province. You can save cash on your housing, if you do some research and consider areas outside of major cities. |
